Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Acts 5:27-29

Monday, April 1, 2013 – Second Sunday of Easter, Year C

I hope you had a blessed Easter. The lectionary selections for this coming Sunday include: Acts 5:27-32; Psalm 118:14-29 or Psalm 150; Revelation 1:4-8 and John 20:19-31.

Acts 5:27-29 When they had brought them, they had them stand before the council. The high priest questioned them, saying, “We gave you strict orders not to teach in his name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you are determined to bring this man’s blood on us. But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than any human authority.”

Despite the glory of Easter witnessed by Peter and the apostles, Good Friday must have left an impression that made standing one’s ground difficult. We are heirs of many strong men and women of faith who endured much to bring God’s promise of hope and resurrection to us.

Prayer: Almighty God, give us the strength to overcome any obstacles which attempt to block us this and every day, Amen.
