Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Luke 19:36-38

Tuesday, March 19, 2013 – Palm Sunday & Holy Week, Year C

Luke 19:36-38 – As Jesus rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!”

Unlike the people laying their coats on the road, we know how this story begins anew on Easter. It always makes me pause when I consider the fleetingness of human opinion, especially on important matters. The adoration of the crowds today will turn into disdain of the highest magnitude in just a few days.

Prayer: Steadfast God, strengthen our faith so that we will be able to withstand the pull of the crowd away from you. Amen.
