Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Genesis 15:12, 18

Tuesday, February 19, 2013 – Second Sunday of Lent, Year C

Genesis 15:12, 18 – As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram, and a deep and terrifying darkness descended upon him…On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates…”

I would guess that many of us won’t experience the presence of God in a dream like Abraham. But the passage does allow us to remember that all of us need deep, recuperative sleep to perform at our optimum ability. Get the rest you need so you can serve God to your best ability.

Prayer: God of both day and night, may your spirit quiet our minds tonight so that we can rest in your peace. Amen.
