Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Genesis 15:5-6

Monday, February 18, 2013 – Second Sunday of Lent, Year C

We are approaching the second Sunday of Lent.  Our lectionary selections include: Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18, Psalm 27, Philippians 3:17-4:1, and Luke 13:31-35.  An alternative Gospel selection is Luke 9:28-36, (37-43a).

Genesis 15:5-6 – The LORD brought Abram outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” And Abram believed the LORD; and the LORD reckoned it to him as righteousness.

Children in your old age! Descendants as numerous as the stars! God makes extraordinary promises to seemingly ordinary people who share a deep, abiding faith. Today, pray for the faith of Abraham in your life.

Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for the promise that you will always be with us. Amen.
