Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Luke 5:9-11

Friday, February 8, 2013 – Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany, Year C

Luke 5:9-11 – For Simon Peter and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who are partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.” When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.

Jesus recruited ordinary fisherman, who had good days and bad days and days when God filled their nets to capacity, to carry out his three-fold directive to preach, teach and heal. Jesus chose patient laborers to learn at his feet and carry his message to us. Consider today how you are being called to proclaim God’s kingdom.

Prayer: Gracious God, grant us a portion of the faith of these fishermen so that we are able to follow you more closely. Amen.
