Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Isaiah 40:1, 3-5

Monday, November 28, 2012 – Second Week of Advent, Year B

The lectionary selections for this week of Advent include: Isaiah 40:1-11; Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13; 2 Peter 3:8-15a; Mark 1:1-8.

Isaiah 40:1, 3-5Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God…A voice cries out: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

We live in a violent world where people commit heinous acts toward one another. You only have to turn on a newscast or open a paper to see examples. And yet as people of faith, I think we are asked to embrace the vision of this passage and prepare the way of the Lord.

Prayer: Almighty God, be with us in our collective efforts to make the uneven ground level for those we serve today. AMEN.
