Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – 1 Thessalonians 5:4-5, 8-9

Thursday, November 10, 2011 – Proper 28 & Ordinary 33, Year A

1 Thessalonians 5:4-5, 8-9But you, beloved, are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; for you are children of light and children of the day; we are not of night or of darkness…But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for the helmet the hope of salvation. For God has destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

In several of Apostle Paul’s writings he likens our faith to armor that we put on to defend ourselves. We are children of faith with love, faith and hope surrounding and protecting us.

Prayer: God of Salvation, you are the light of the world. Work within us and help us become beacons for the world on your behalf. AMEN.
