Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Psalm 106:20-23

Tuesday, October 4, 2011 – Proper 23 & Ordinary 28, Year A

Psalm 106:20-23They exchanged the glory of God for the image of an ox that eats grass. They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt, wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome deeds by the Red Sea. Therefore God said he would destroy them – had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to turn away his wrath from destroying them.

I love that phrase “…stood in the breach before him…” Moses pleaded with God to spare his people after they created the gold calf, and God listened. Is there someone in your life for whom you should stand in the breach before God? Pray a special prayer for that person today.

Prayer: Merciful God, you already know the people in our lives who are in trouble. Be with each of them today, so that they may be comforted by your presence. AMEN.
