Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Exodus 32:1-2, 4a

Monday, October 3, 2011 – Proper 23, Ordinary 28, Year A

This week offers a rich collection of familiar scriptures including: Exodus 32:1-14; Psalm 106:1-6, 19-23; Philippians 4:1-9 and Matthew 22:1-14. Alternative scriptures include Isaiah 25:1-9 and Psalm 23.

Exodus 32:1-2, 4aWhen the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered around Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make gods for us, who shall go before us; as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” Aaron said to them, “Take off your gold rings that are on the ears of your wives, your sons and your daughters, and bring them to me.” He took the gold from them, formed it in a mold, and cast an image of a calf…”

Like the Israelites in the passage above, many of us are impatient. We will say, “God’s time is perfect time,” but what we really want is for God to be on our time table. Today, we pray for patience and wisdom.

Prayer: Gracious God, grant us patience so that we are not unnecessarily anxious in our desire to learn your will, but also grant us wisdom to know when you are talking to us. AMEN.
