Daily Devotion from the Church Health Center – Ezekiel 37-1-4

Monday, April 4, 2011 – Lent 5, Year A

God’s redemptive power is a unifying theme of the lectionary passages for the fifth Sunday in Lent. Those familiar passages include: Ezekiel 37:1-14; Psalm 130; Romans 8:6-11 and John 11:1-45.

Ezekiel 37-1-4The hand of the LORD came upon me, and he brought me out by the spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me all around them; there were very many lying in the valley and they were very dry. He said to me, “Mortal, can these bones live?” I answered. “O Lord GOD you know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them: O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.”

This is a scripture about God prophesying to Ezekiel that the Israelites would be returned to Israel from their Babylonian exile. But it is also about a person who listened for God’s voice and acted on faith from what was heard. Take some time today to listen for God’s voice in your life.

Prayer: Loving God, help us be better listeners for your voice. AMEN.
