Thought & Prayer for Proper 17 & Ordinary 22, 2010 – Luke 14:12-14

Luke 14:12-14 [Jesus] said also to the one who had invited him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

The passages this week have said a lot about our perspective and our tendency to trust ourselves more than God, to look out for ourselves more than we look out for others. Founder and Executive Director of the Church Health Center, Rev. Dr. Scott Morris, ends every blessing of food with the same line, “…and keep us mindful of those less fortunate than we are.”

Prayer: God of all of us, always keep of mindful of those less fortunate than we are. AMEN.
