Proper 24/Ordinary 29 – Job 38:1, 37

The lectionary selections for this week include Job 38:1-7, (34-41); Psalm 104:1-9, 24, 35c; Hebrews 5:1-10 and Mark 10:35-45. Alternate scriptures include Isaiah 53:4-12 and Psalm 91:9-16.

From Job 38:1, 37 – Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind: Who has the wisdom to number the clouds? Or who can tilt the waterskins of the heavens…

In the scripture last week, Job asked to be questioned by God. This is definitely a case of be careful what you ask for. Yet God is reminding Job that it is God who is ultimately in control of all creation…something of which most of us need reminding from time to time.

Prayer:

Almighty God, always keep us mindful of your creative presence in this world. AMEN.

Who has the wisdom to number the clouds? Or who can tilt the waterskins of the heavens…

This is the view I will be enjoying for the next few days.
