…as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts.

Proper 15/Ordinary 20 – 1 Kings 2:10-12

We are well into Pentecost and schools are starting to open after having been closed for the summer. The lectionary passages for this week include: 1 Kings 2:10-12, 3:3-14; Psalm 111; Ephesians 5:15-20 and John 6:51-58. Alternate passages include Proverbs 9:1-6 and Psalm 34:9-14.

From 1 Kings 2:10-12 – Then David slept with his ancestors, and was buried in the city of David. The time that David reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem. So Solomon sat on the throne of his father David; and his kingdom was firmly established.

Just prior to his death, David offered his son advice on being a king. He told him to 1) be courageous, 2) be strong and 3) walk in the ways of God. Good advice for all of us.

Prayer:

Loving God, help us walk in your ways so that we might be the people you would have us be. AMEN.
