Ezekiel 34:11-12

This coming Sunday is the last Sunday of the liturgical year which means we are almost to Advent.  The lectionary selections for this week (Proper 29/Ordinary 34) include: Ezekiel 34:11-16, 20-24; Psalm 100; Ephesians 1:15-23 and Matthew 25:31-46.  An alternative selection is Psalm 95:1-7a.

From Ezekiel 34:11-12 – For thus says the Lord GOD: I myself will search for my sheep, and will seek them out.  As shepherds seek out their flocks when they are among their scattered sheep, so I will seek out my sheep.  I will rescue them from all the places to which they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness.

This is a trying time of year for me.  As the temperature drops, my hands start to hurt more.  With the shorter days, it is also always dark when I leave for home at the end of the work day.  It is easy for me to feel frustrated, even sad, yet this scripture reminds me of God’s steadfast presence in my life as the watchful shepherd.

Prayer:

Steadfast God, help us to feel your presence in both the light of day and the dark of night.  AMEN.
