Wednesday, February 6, 2013 – Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany, Year C
1 Corinthians 15:4-7 – …and that Jesus was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
What a comfort it must have been for those early Christians who had seen or knew someone (or knew someone who knew someone) who had seen the resurrected Christ. I appreciate Paul’s offer of what would have been tangible evidence to the people of his time.
Prayer: God of mystery, we don’t always know your ways or understand your reasons, but we give you thanks for your steadfast love and your faithfulness. Amen.
