An article on miracles in AARP

I admit that I have been skeptical of miracles most of my life until a few years ago.  I was teaching a 5th grade Sunday School class, and I had invited an older, level-headed and respected member of the congregation to talk about her life in faith to the kids.  What she ended up sharing with the class was her own miraculous encounter with an angel at a summer camp.

I read an interesting article at www.aarpmagazine.org on miracles.  It is also available in their print version that has just arrived at homes.  It reports on results of a survey that was taken, and it has comments from a number of people representing a host of faith traditions.  I think this article could be a great discussion starter for a small group interested in this subject.

Mark 1:1-4

From Mark 1:1-4 – The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  As it is written in the prophet Isaiah, “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way; the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’”  John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

John heralded the arrival of Jesus.  Consider for a moment today how you proclaim your faith to the people with whom you come in contact.

Prayer:

Gracious God, help us be better beacons guiding people toward you by our words and deeds today.  AMEN.
